Quid sit musicus?

The continuity and the musical process, the mobility of the perception and the harmony are the invariants of the musical style of Philippe Leroux who has often collaborated with Ircam researchers and in this occasion with the ANR Project INEDIT for his pieces. After Voi(rex) and Apocalypsis, Quid sit musicus ? brings Computer Music to the realm of Guillaume de Machaut. Taking the essence of the gestures from 14th century manuscripts so that the perception of this ancient calliographic treats become the basis of the sound production and composition of a new piece. Philippe Leroux integrates the new technology of Interactive Paper which, by using a bluetooth pen, allows a transcription of data from Machaut’s chanted scores to the computer. « Quid sit musicus ? » (Boèce). What is a musician? Is it her who performs, the one who plays or the one who understands ?
